What is Emotional Eating?

Emotional eating is when you turn to food not because you’re physically hungry but because you’re feeling something—stress, boredom, sadness, or even happiness. Sometimes, it’s because you’re looking for food to bring you a moment of comfort or joy.

It’s a way of using food to cope with or distract yourself from your emotions. Instead of addressing what’s really going on, you might find yourself reaching for that bag of chips or tub of ice cream.

Believe me, I’ve been there. And I know firsthand that the “relief” or “comfort” we think food gives us is only temporary—and false. Every time we give in to food for these reasons, we strengthen the cycle and make it harder to break free.

What is INTERMITTENT FASTING?

Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern where you limit your meals to a specific window of time during the day or week. For example, you might choose to fast for 16 hours and eat only during an 8-hour window, or you might fast for a full day on certain days and eat normally on others.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to intermittent fasting. The key is finding a method that works for your lifestyle, experience, and health goals. Each fasting protocol offers unique benefits to help you achieve lasting results.

Hello, I’m Nicki!

And I know how frustrating and exhausting it can be to stick to a plan that supports your health and weight goals for the long haul.

Have you ever thought, If only I had more willpower? Me too.

The reality? Relying on willpower alone just doesn’t work. Overusing it feels like being in a constant battle with yourself—pushing through even when every part of you is resisting. And let’s be real, that’s not sustainable.

My cycle used to go something like this: Overly restrictive eating, followed by a binge, then back to restrictive eating, then another binge… you get it. Eventually, I’d turn to fasting as my “reset.”

I’d typically do 3 to 5-day fasts (my longest fast was 14 days). Each time, I’d see amazing results—inflammation would go down, my weight would stabilize, my skin would glow, my mood would improve… all the good stuff. But then, like clockwork, I’d slide back into my old cycle of restriction and bingeing.

After one of those resets, I finally decided it was time for a real shift. I committed to a more balanced approach—I earned my Functional Nutrition Health Coach certification and dove deep into understanding all I could about emotional eating and binge eating.

That’s also when I transitioned from being a personal trainer and group fitness coach into a health coach. 

I became obsessed with uncovering what it really takes to achieve lasting success—not just outer fitness rewards.

Then, life threw me a curveball—in the best way! I met the love of my life and landed an amazing gig writing for women thought leaders. It was incredible, but it also meant more sitting, late nights, and plenty of foodie adventures with my partner, who loves to eat as much as I do.

Before I knew it, my “healthy path” was a distant memory. My skin flared up again—rashes, breakouts, relentless itching (classic autoimmune symptoms). My cravings were through the roof (thanks, gut imbalances), and I was dealing with constant joint pain, fatigue, brain fog, and—yep—stubborn weight gain that wouldn’t budge.

I knew it was time for another reset.
But this time, I wasn’t mentally or physically ready for a long fast.

(Pro tip: jumping into a fast when you’re stressed is not a good idea!)

Instead, I decided to try intermittent fasting—a smaller, more manageable approach to introduce fasting on a micro level.

That’s when I remembered a book collecting dust on my Kindle shelf: 45 Day Transformation by Cynthia Thurlow, all about intermittent fasting for women. Once I cracked it open I couldn’t put it down!

From there, I discovered other incredible resources like Fast Like a Girl by Mindy Pelz, Intermittent Fasting for Women by Megan Ramos, and Intuitive Fasting by Dr. Will Cole. I also binge-watched videos from experts like Dr. Pradip Jamnadas and Dr. Jason Fung and others.

I was hooked and I knew this was the health message I needed to share with other women.

Fast forward to now, and I’m feeling better than ever! My skin is under control, my joints are happy (thanks to ditching inflammatory foods), and I finally lost that stubborn 20 pounds.

Best of all, those all-consuming food cravings that used to run my life? They’re no longer in control—I am.

My biggest takeaway? Fasting isn’t just a powerful tool for resetting your health—it’s incredible preventative medicine when you make it part of your Lifestyle.

About Nicki

I help women over 40 reset their metabolism, rebalance their hormones, and recharge their energy, through fasting and other key health habits so they can FEEL AND LOOK THEIR BEST.

My journey into health and fitness started over 20 years ago when my then-boyfriend, a football player, introduced me to the gym. While the relationship didn’t last, my love for fitness did! Fitness became a grounding constant in my life, evolving alongside me through the years.

But back then, my relationship with “health” wasn’t as healthy as it seemed. Sure, I rarely missed a gym session, but I was trapped in a cycle of binge eating, overly restrictive dieting, and negative self-talk. I looked fit on the outside, but inside I felt stuck, drained, and unsatisfied.

Eventually, I knew something had to change. I started researching how mindset, motivation, and habits influence our health, and what I discovered changed everything. I learned how deeply our diet, sleep, and stress management impact our willpower, mood, and cravings. By applying these insights to my own life, I was able to break free from toxic patterns and create a balanced, sustainable approach to health.
This sparked a passion for helping others achieve lasting results—not just physical ones, but mental and emotional wellness too. I pursued certifications in:
